Kindle Paperwhite DX Size

Is it technically possible for Amazon to make Kindle Paperwhite DX size, while still maintaining the battery life of the original Paperwhite and the weight of the original Kindle DX?

Yes. The eink display only consumes energy while it is being changed. The big power hog is 3G (or wifi), and next is the CPU, and then SDRAM. For reading books, screen size matters very little regarding battery life, and a big screen leaves room for a bigger battery to boot (with advances in battery tech since the DX giving a much better power/weight ration than before). Battery life depends primarily on usage patterns, not screen size.

How about the light? The LED consumes a lot of energy which may significantly shorten the battery life compares to an identical device without the LED.

I don't think there are any frontlit 9.7" devices, are there? Light diffusers don't work well on large screens.

The Onyx N96ML is a front-lit, 9.7 inch ebook reader.

Thank you - I wasn't aware of that. I wonder how well the light works on so large a screen? I'm sure that there must be a good reason that the majority of makers of 9.7" device have opted not to add a frontlight.

Many of the users who've posted on it here (in the Onyx forum) seem to like it. I'm extremely attracted to it and would purchase it if I didn't have to wait a life-time for it to arrive in Peru.

But I do really wonder how effective the lighting system is considering the size of the unit.
