nickel is a nightmare

Hi,
I have never been able to read with nickel, that's why I installed KSM and Koreader...
But it is bothering me, so I need your help.

The version that is installed is 3.12.1.
When I add some books, the database is rarely well updated, I tried by copy/paste some books or with Calibre, I met the problem each time.
It happened even when KSM was not installed.

Nickel often crashes, and KSM restarts.
But I'm not sure that it was the case when KSM and Koreader was not installed, I don't remember, so I can't blame Nickel for that

Is there any new version of Nickel, upper than 3.12.1 ?
Is it possible to install it without breaking KSM and Koreader ?

Thanks for your help

The issue is NOT nickel. the issue is the some of the hacks like KSM mess with the ability of the internal storage to be unmounted / mounted during the USB connection.

Thanks for your reply PeterT.
But I am sure that my database problems started before I installed any hack.
And I forgot to say something : I use a Kobo H2O, but I suppose that it works like the Glo.
Anyway, thank you for the link, PeterT.

And what about any update ??

See Direct Links to Kobo Firmware for listings of f/w and which platform they officially support.

Officially Aura H2O is on 3.15.0 released in April 2015.

And yes; all of the newer Kobos (Touch / Glo / Aura / Aura HD / Aura H2O / Glo HD / Mini) use basically the same f/w and the same database.

My H2O is on 3.15.0 (patched) and I do not have KSM and Koreader installed. I've never had a single database error. I've had my H2O about 8 months.

Given the rather active thread Kobo Glo SQLite Database about issues with database corruption and KSM? IMNSHO, The issue is more likely to be KSM than nickel.

I've seen very few cases of database corruption using Kobo readers from the original to the H2O that was not triggered by my actions such as forgetting to eject before disconnecting.

Those other times when the database was corrupted seemed to be connected with attempting to add epubs that were not standards compliant. One lovely example had a TOC entry for every paragraph. Others were created by software that didn't seem to have heard of the epub standard. Hence my current paranoia for running epubs through epubcheck and Flightcrew before adding them to Calibre.

Hmmm... you should have updated to 3.15.0 by now. When was the last time you checked for a firmware update? If nothing else, DavidFor's Kobo Utilities for Calibre will check for firmware updates.

3.15.0 was only released in Japan. It can be sideloaded though on a non-Japanese H2O.

??? I was under the impression that 3.15.0 was a general release. 3.16.0 and 3.16.10 were limited releases with 3.16.10 being intended for the Glo HD and it's Japanese release.

Was that a thing related only to the Mark 5 hardware (not getting 3.15.0)? My Aura HD downloaded 3.15.0 over the air.

The H2O did not get 3.16.0 or 3.16.10.

Sorry for not responding... But I am a bit lost

I will dig a bit more for a newer version, but maybe you could help me with my second question :
Does the update breaks KSM and Koreader ?
If yes, can they still be installed ?
(in case I still meet my nickel problems !).

Thank you

My mistake. I thought it was 3.15.0 that was Japanese only. It was 3.13.1 that was released in Japan for the H2O and Glo.
